ALDE Party received all nominations for the next Bureau due for election at the Congress in Estoril on 4-6 October. Current Vice-President Svenja Hahn MEP is the only candidate for ALDE Party President, while 11 nominations have been advanced for six Vice-President roles. Venstre launch election campaign at Congress

On 21-22 September, ALDE Party member Venstre in Norway launched their campaign towards next year’s parliamentary elections at a party Congress in Lillestrøm. In a keynote speech, Venstre leader Guri Melby vowed the party is ready to lead Norway forward towards a greener, more inclusive and internationally engaged society.

Ministers meet ahead of GAC Council

On 24 September, Ministers from our political family met in Brussels to discuss common priorities ahead of the General Affairs Council of the European Union (GAC). Participants exchanged ideas on the Council agenda items such as the priorities of the Hungarian presidency, the rule of law situation in EU member states and preparations for the European Council meeting on 17-18 October.

Momentum Mozgalom fights plastic pollution

Momentum Mozgalom launched a website aiming to improve the country’s single-use plastic bottle recycling system. visszavaltjuk.hu aims to connect people who have a pile of plastic bottles with those who are available to return them to a recycling machine. Hungary’s plastic recycling system, operated by company MOL, presents many operational issues.

ALDE-PACE lead election mission in Georgia

A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) travelled to Georgia to assess the country’s election campaign and political climate ahead of parliamentary elections on 26 October. Led by ALDE-PACE leader Iulian Bulai, six members will meet with representatives of Georgia’s government, parliamentary majority and opposition, civil society and the media.

YELL Summit focuses on new EU mandate

On 12-13 September, 19 young local politicians from 13 different European countries participated in the Young Elected Local Leaders (YELL) Summit in Brussels. Participants discussed their expectations of the new European mandate, shared their political priorities for the future and focused on innovative approaches to tackling local challenges.

Meet our MEPs: NEOS

Austrian liberals NEOS doubled their representation in the European Parliament. Helmut Brandstätter has an impressive past as a journalist, author and Member of Parliament. Anna Stürgkh, former chair of the party's youth wing JUNOS, was part of the committee of experts in charge of drafting and preparing the ALDE Party Manifesto for the 2024 European elections.

Meet our MEPs: Open VLD

Hilde Vautmans was re-elected as a Member of the European Parliament for the third successive mandate as Open VLD’s lead candidate for the 2024 European elections. After working for various liberal senators including Guy Verhofstadt, she was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2003 and chaired the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives.

Renew Europe stands with Venezuelan opposition

On 19 September, Renew Europe members refused to vote on a Plenary resolution on the political situation in Venezuela co-authored by the far-right “Patriots for Europe” group in the European Parliament. The "Patriots" do not have the interest of Venezuela's opposition in mind. That is why Renew Europe decided to stand with democracy and voice a protest against extremists.
