Three ALDE Party members participated in last Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Lithuania. Darbo Partija led by Viktor Uspaskich won 9.46% of the vote, Laisves Partija led by Aušrinė Armonaitė 9.02% and Liberalų Sąjūdis led by Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen 6.79%. ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen congratulated all parties of their results.

Last week, ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen opened the second day of the Digital Czech Conference with EU Commission Vice-President Věra Jourová and European Parliament and ALDE Party Vice-President Dita Charanzová MEP, both from ALDE member party ANO 2011.

ALDE President calls for ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh

Commenting on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen said: "We call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the violent hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh and for the immediate return to dialogue and the peace talks within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group."

ALDE President calls for Taiwan to be included in WHO and WHA

Last Saturday 10 October, ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen congratulated the President of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen on the National Day of Taiwan, wishing the people of Taiwan good health and peace as well as international cooperation and being recognised as participant in multinational organisations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Health Assembly (WHA).

NEOS wins in Vienna local elections

Led by lead candidate Christoph Wiederkehr, ALDE Party member NEOS became the fourth biggest party in the Vienna municipal council by winning 8.1% of the vote which translates into 9 seats. Beating the populist far-right party FPÖ, NEOS party leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger described the result as ‘sensational’.

In her intervention at the Annual DisinfoLab Conference, European Commission Vice-President Věra Jourová shared the EU’s plans to address disinformation and to safeguard the integrity of European democracies, including the upcoming European Democracy Action Plan.

Attīstībai/Par! holds congress ahead of 2021 municipal elections

Last Sunday 11 October, the alliance consisting of ALDE Party members Kustība "Par!" and Latvijas Attīstībai and third partner Izaugsme gathered 40 party members for their electoral congress in the run up to the country’s municipal elections taking place in 2021.

Renew Europe CoR launches local campaign to support Poland’s LGBT+ citizens

Coinciding with the European Week of Regions and Cities, the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions (Renew Europe CoR) launched a campaign to support Poland’s LGBT+ citizens who have been the recent target of intimidation and discriminatory resolutions passed by a number of local and regional authorities.

Decoster promotes integration policies with Chancellor Merkel

During his exchange with Chancellor Angela Merkel at the EWRC, President of the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions François Decoster focused on the new Pact for Migration and Asylum, urging the Chancellor to reach an agreement during the German Presidency and highlighting the dependence of the EU’s migration policy on successful integration policies at the local level.

Renew Europe position paper on health policies draws lessons from COVID-19 crisis

While it is still early to evaluate the overall management of the COVID-19 crisis at EU level, the new Renew Europe vision paper looks at the lessons to be learnt so far. The Group calls for an effective system to coordinate the EU's response to future public health threats, improving on the performance of existing European health agencies as well as a new European Health Response Mechanism to be created in order to deal with all types of health crises.

European Parliament continues to lead the way on climate change

The European Parliament has adopted its position on the new European Climate law, increasing the EU's ambition on tackling climate change and strengthening the tools to get there.
