Centerpartiet unveils EU election candidates

On 24 November, ALDE Party member Centerpartiet in Sweden confirmed their electoral list for the European elections in 2024, led by Emma Wiesner MEP. Wiesner has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2021, when she became Sweden’s youngest MEP at just 28 years of age. Abir al-Sahlani MEP and Svante Linusson complete the party’s top three.

Venstre announce Danish minister reshuffle

Venstre announced a minor reshuffle of their Ministers in the Danish government cabinet, following the election of new party leadership. New deputy party chair Stephanie Lose has been appointed Minister for Economic Affairs; Morten Dahlin becomes Minister for Cities and Rural Districts, Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs and Minister for Nordic Cooperation; and Mia Wagner is the new Minister for Digitalisation and Minister for Gender Equality.

Liberals’ results in Dutch parliamentary elections

On 22 November, the Netherlands held snap parliamentary elections to elect all 150 members of the House of Representatives. ALDE Party members D66 and VVD took part in a hard-fought election campaign led respectively by new party leaders Rob Jetten and Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius. D66 retained nine seats in the next parliamentary term, while VVD will have 24 seats in the chamber.

Renew Europe CoR votes on gender-based violence report

Ahead of the European Committee of the Regions plenary session, Renew Europe CoR’s Donatella Porzi set out a list of actions for cities and regions to lead the fight against gender-based violence. Porzi’s report on “Stopping Gender-based Violence” will be debated and voted on at the plenary session taking place in Brussels on 29-30 November.

Renew Europe: Secure Ukraine’s EU destiny

Renew Europe fully supports the Memorandum of Understanding between the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted on 28 November. Renew Europe calls on the European Council to authorise accession negotiations for Ukraine in the coming weeks, and will play its full part assisting sister parties in their European aspirations.

Renew Europe: Improve EU border controls and identify threats

On 28 November, the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs adopted the European Parliament’s negotiating mandate for two proposals on the collection and transfer of advance passenger information. The new rules will facilitate checks on passengers before their arrival at the EU’s external borders, enhance the fight against serious crime and terrorism and safeguard the data protection of passengers.
