Liberals further support for Ukraine at EU-Ukraine Summit

On 3 February, the European Commission College of Commissioners and the President of the European Council met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his government in Kyiv to take stock of the EU’s ongoing support to Ukraine in different areas as well as of the progress and next steps of cooperation and reform efforts by Ukraine to advance on its European path.

Muharrem Demirok becomes Centerpartiet’s new leader

Centerpartiet, one of ALDE Party’s members in Sweden, held an extraordinary meeting on 2 February to confirm the selection of the party’s new leader. Muharrem Demirok was elected as Annie Lööf’s successor. In his acceptance speech, he presented four priorities for the party: taking a clear stand for the good of the entire country, security, climate change and schools.

Renew Europe CoR: Feeney to assist diversity and inclusion jury

Kate Feeney, Councillor for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown (Ireland) and the CoR rapporteur on LGTBIQ+ rights, will assist the work of the jury for the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity 2023 Award. The Award recognises the work done by cities, towns, or regions in Europe to promote inclusion and create discrimination-free societies. It is open for local authorities to apply until 15 February.

D66 Councillor to analyse Digital Europe programme

Michiel Rijsberman (D66), Member of the Council of the province of Flevoland, The Netherlands, was appointed by the Fit for Future (F4F) Platform plenary to analyse the Digital Europe programme in 2023 to provide the local and regional perspective to EU policy making. He will present his draft opinion on 2 June 2023.

European Parliament adopts report on political advertising

Renew Europe welcomed last week’s adoption of a report on transparency and targeting of political advertising online, complementing the Digital Services Act Regulation by establishing specific rules for transparency in this area. Through this, the Group aims to better fight disinformation and external interference in our democratic processes, while preserving open public debate.

Renew Europe: Time for EU migration reform

Ahead of the special European Council summit this week, Renew Europe calls on EU leaders to uphold their part of the Joint Roadmap agreed last year, and undo the blockage to implement the Migration and Asylum Pact before the end of the current mandate period. Together, Europe can put in place a common, sustainable asylum and migration pact combining solidarity and responsibility.
