ALDE Party Bureau Statement to mark one year since Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine

On the one-year anniversary of Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the ALDE Party Bureau called for Russian troops to withdraw from all Ukrainian territory, including Crimea. They urge partners to maintain support for the Ukrainian government and commemorate the bravery of the Ukrainian people, vowing to be a strong voice for Ukraine in Europe.

ALDE Party hosts expert workshops to develop Manifesto

ALDE Party recently hosted five expert workshops chaired by members of the Manifesto Drafting Committee, in view of the 2024 European elections. Experts discussed globalisation, strengthening defence and security, sustainable economy, building a resilient labour force and addressing corruption. The workshops gathered expertise and knowledge from civil society, policy experts, academia and the private sector to support development of the Manifesto.

Georgian liberals support Ukraine

ALDE member parties in Georgia showed support for Ukraine on the one-year anniversary of Russia’s war of aggression. Tens of thousands attended a rally organised by Strategy Aghmashenebeli and Girchi – More Freedom, while a delegation from Lelo for Georgia travelled to Kyiv to mark the sombre anniversary. ALDE Party Vice-Presidents Henrik Bach Mortensen and Kira Rudik MP also delivered video messages to the protesters.

Più Europa elects new leadership

During its Third National Congress in Rome, Più Europa elected Federico Pizzarotti as its new President, succeeding Riccardo Magi, who became Secretary General. Carla Taibi was also elected Treasurer. Resolutions on human rights, Ukraine, migration, genetic manipulation and the Party's internal regulations were discussed. Following his election, Pizzaroti expressed enthusiasm and pledged to grow the Party in the future.

Russian liberals hold concert-marathon for peace

Yabloko, one ALDE Party’s members in Russia, held a concert-marathon on the eve of the anniversary of the Putin's invasion of Ukraine. 45 videos were shown during the event, where members of Yabloko from all over Russia shared their struggles from throughout the difficult year. Excerpts from books and poems about war were also broadcasted, followed by violin performances.

ALDE Party is currently seeking a Communication Adviser to join our Secretariat in Brussels ahead of the 2024 elections to the European Parliament. As member of both the Communications & Press Unit and 2024 Campaign team, the Adviser will have a front row seat to the inner workings of an electoral campaign. Apply by 7 March.

Northern Ireland Protocol: Agreement offers way forward

Renew Europe welcomed the provisional agreement announced this week between the European Commission and the UK Government to build on the Northern Ireland Protocol. The Group hopes it will create much needed momentum for the benefit of the people of Northern Ireland, while protecting the EU Single Market and opening the door to more constructive EU-UK relations.

Renew Europe calls for stronger support to Ukraine

Marking one year since Russia initiated its unlawful, full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine, Renew Europe reaffirmed its unconditional and full support to the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom and welcomed the latest sanctions package. The EU must supply more humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine, with due consideration for providing fighter jets and long-range missiles.
