Juha Sipilä re-elected as Keskusta party leader

Over 2,000 participants gathered from 8 to 10 June in Sotkamo, Finland, for Keskusta's 77th Congress.

Finnish Prime Minister and Keskusta's leader Juha Sipilä opened Sotkamo's party Congress stressing that whenever Finland needs a strong leader, Keskusta is ready to work and take action. In his speech, the Prime Minister also went through the promises made during the electoral term, such as economic growth and employment, both of which have been fulfilled as promised. In particular, Sipilä praised that his party has been able to stand for regional equality, reflected in the creation of new jobs in all provinces.

During the event, Sipilä was re-elected as Chairman of Keskusta for a two-year mandate (2018-2010). Sipilä has been leading the party since 2012. Following his election, Sipilä addressed the Congress in a speech explaining the four pillars or 'leafs of the clover' for Keskusta: knowledge growth, care, realistic environment goals and responsibility.

Katri Kulmuni, Hannakaisa Heikkinen and Juha Rehula were elected as the new party's Vice Presidents and Riikka Pirkkalainen as Secretary General.

During the event, Keskusta also adopted a new party programme, renewed its internal rules and discussed the preparations for the 2018 provincial elections and the 2019 Finnish parliamentary elections and the European elections.

The ALDE Party was also present a the conference with a stand explaining the work of European Liberals and Democrats and encouraging participants to become ALDE Party Individual Members.
