The Liberal Democrats are a centre-left Opposition party formed in 1988 by merging the Liberal Party and Social Democrats. The Party is passionately pro-European, internationalist and environmentalist. It was a junior partner in the Coalition Government of 2010-2015. It currently has 15 MPs and 83 members of the House of Lords, plus extensive representation in local government.

As the constitution states, the Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
