Last Thursday, 25 March, marked the Belarus Freedom Day. With the Lukashenko regime still holding onto power, the Belarus opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya launched a call for action to express solidarity with the people of Belarus and their continuous fight for democracy, freedom and fundamental rights. The ALDE Party responded to the call and organised a virtual protest to show its support.
In the European Parliament, our MEPs participated in a peaceful demonstration in Brussels. In 2020, Renew Europe group played a key role in the resolution on Belarus, which explicitly supports the Belarusian protesters and demands new, free and fair elections in accordance with international standards.
⚪🔴⚪ Our MEPs participated today in a peaceful demonstration in Brussels to lend a hand of solidarity and support to the Belarusian people in their Freedom Day.

The year 1918 is as important to #Lithuania, as it is to #Belarus. Our states had common objectives then, but different paths. However, despite of everything, today we are together.#ЖывеБеларусь ❤️🤍❤️ pic.twitter.com/MbfJepXJeN
The Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Thomas Byrne and German MP Michael Georg Link were also among the liberals who joined our virtual protest.
