Liberal initiatives to tackle climate change

The UN Climate Change Conference takes place this year in Madrid (COP25) from 2 to 13 December. Jean-Noël Verfaillie, member of Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions (Renew Europe CoR) and second Vice-Chair of the ENVE Commission, is part of the official delegation of the European Committee of the Regions.

Verfaillie is joined in Madrid by other Renew Europe CoR members: Manuel Alejandro Cardenete, Vice-Minister for Tourism of the Andalucia region (Ciudadanos, Spain) and Francisco Igea Arisqueta, Vice-President of the Government of Castile and León (Ciudadanos, Spain), as well as two of Renew Europe CoR’s Young Elected Politicians (YEP): Maximilian Reinhardt (FDP, Sindelfingen, Germany) and Henrik Wikström (SFP, Finland).

Ahead of his participation in COP25, Jean-Noël Verfaillie engaged with 30 Young Elected Politicians in a special workshop to offer clear solutions for improving the transport sector, as it has a huge regional and local impact. The participants of this workshop agreed on an urgent need to decarbonise transport with local and regional authorities as key actors, exchanging best practices from their cities and regions.

As cities and regions are at the frontline of climate impacts but also solutions, Renew Europe CoR has gathered together climate actions implemented by their members, including examples from different cities and towns. You can access the full publication here.
