On Tuesday, ALDE Party Co-President Timmy Dooley and Vice-President Svenja Hahn MEP took part in a conference titled “Women’s Leadership: EU Dimension” organised by Ze!Women, the women’s wing of ALDE Party member Servant of the People (Sluga Narodu), in Kyiv.
In his speech, Dooley expressed his admiration for Ukraine and Ukrainian women, his pride for ALDE’s close ties with Ukraine, and thanked Servant of the People for becoming a full member of the ALDE Party. Moreover, he reassured participants of the volume of work planned to support Ukraine and of his belief in these initiatives.
“Your desire for victory inspires us, so we will always be with you”, Dooley said via Zoom.
Participants at the conference also discussed strengthening cooperation with ALDE member parties. In her address, Hahn said that the strength of female politicians lies in the communities they build and their mutual support, and highlighted the importance to speak out about any inequality between men and women in politics in order to promote liberal values and cooperation.
Ze!Women have taken part in ALDE activities since the party became a full member last year. Since then, the movement has developed three resolutions which have been adopted across two ALDE Party Congresses:
- "Justice, rehabilitation, and compensation for the victims of wartime sexual violence in Ukraine"
- "Dignity and Support for Survivors of Sexual Violence in the Russian War against Ukraine"
- "Supporting Persons Displaced by the Russian War against Ukraine in Europe One Year after the Full-scale Russian Invasion"
