On 5 October, Renew Europe CoR members gathered for the 11th Liberal Mayors Summit to discuss local solutions to the European housing crisis to be shared with the incoming European Commissioner for Housing.
On the second day of the ALDE Party Congress in Estoril, Portugal, liberal mayors from all over Europe raised different housing concerns and highlighted the wide-reaching consequences of the lack of affordable housing.
Participants used the Summit as an opportunity to exchange insights and share solutions being implemented at the local level, which Renew Europe CoR will compile into a report to be submitted to the newly-appointed European Commissioner for Housing.
On 6 October, Renew Europe CoR held an Extraordinary Meeting where local councillors from Iniciativa Liberal convened to address the broader impact of Europe’s housing shortage and the unique challenges faced by various regions across the continent.
The discussion was steered by a presentation from Andres Jaadla, local leader from Rakvere, Estonia, who shared findings from his CoR Opinion on smart, sustainable and affordable housing, Gillian Coughlan, local councillor in Cork, Ireland, Angelique Da Teresa, Vice-President of Iniciativa Liberal and Gonçalo Cordeiro, national adviser of Iniciativa Liberal.
