Liberals enter government in Cyprus

On 28 February, the new government of Cyprus led by President Nikos Christodoulides was sworn in. Christodoulides ran as an independent candidate with the support of centrist parties such as ALDE Party member Dimokratiki Parataxi (DEPA). It is with these parties that he also chose to form a government.

Cyprus’ new executive now includes a liberal Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment from DEPA, Petros Xenophontos.

A mechanical engineer by training, Xenophontos has served as Senior Road Transport Officer at the Department of Road Transport of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works as well as Director of the Government Printing Office and Head of State Procurement and Procurement Services of the Ministry of Finance.

DEPA leader Marios Garoyian congratulated the new government:

Congratulations to all members of the government. Citizens expect their expectations to be met effectively. We will continue to be creative and supportive in the implementation of the program of the government of Nikos Christodoulides.
