
Liberals from all around the world gathered in Fes, Morocco, over the weekend for the 203rd Executive Meeting of Liberal International.
Upon the invitation of LI President Hakima Elhaité, representatives from 32 member parties spanning 27 countries convened for a programme that involved the adoption of a Declaration on Free and Fair Trade, as well as political resolutions and urgencies on Cambodia, Catalonia and Hong Kong and the announcement of the LI Freedom Prize Laureate for 2020: Zeid bin Ra'ad al-Hussein.
In her speech to open the Executive Committee meeting, LI President Elhaité said: “We must work to reinvent multilateralism that centres on tackling Climate Change, poverty, and inequality while respecting partnerships that promote democracy and stability.”
In additional to political discussions, workshops and training sessions, the programme also saw the launch of Liberal International’s WIPP Index handbook and the world’s first party inclusivity index to support more women in politics.
The ALDE Party was represented at the event by Treasurer Gasper Koprivsek and Vice President Ilhan Kyuchyuk, who as a member of MRF, Bulgaria, invited participants to the capital Sofia which will host the 63rd Congress of Liberal International on 25-28 June 2020.
