Liberals govern in dozen EU capitals

With the recent election of Mārtiņš Staķis in Riga, liberals are now governing in a dozen of EU capital cities or seats of government.

As Mayors, liberals currently govern the capital cities of Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Luxembourg, The Hague (seat of government), Bratislava with the member of the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions (Renew Europe CoR) Matúš Vallo and Bucharest (supported by USR-PLUS).

As Deputy Mayors in a coalition, liberals are governing in Madrid, Budapest, Stockholm, Warsaw and Copenhagen.

Mārtiņš Staķis is motivated to bring profound change: “This means Riga, where corruption is no longer possible, and where the work is being done properly. A city that is dynamically developing and offers modern solutions in all areas - from attracting investment to planning traffic infrastructure and ending with the reduction of queues in kindergartens. We have been elected because we are expected to do practical work for the benefit of the people of Riga.”

Renew Europe CoR is looking forward to involving these Mayors in their Liberal Mayors Network and Liberal Mayors Summit. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will take place online in the second half of November.
