Liberals honour the memory of victims of the Holocaust

On 27 January, the European Parliament held a special Plenary sitting in memory of the victims of the Holocaust on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

European Council President Charles Michel (MR, BE) addressed the Chamber after an emotional speech by German Holocaust survivor Margot Friedländer.

“Anti-Semitism is a denial of democracy. When we fight discrimination, when we protect minorities, we defend European democracy”, he said.

ALDE Party Acting Co-President Senator Timmy Dooley paid tribute to the memory of the victims reaffirming our liberal commitment to countering intolerance in all forms.

The ceremony marked 77 years after the liberation of the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp on 27 January 1945 and concluded with a minute of silence and a musical performance.
