Liberals stand with LGBTQIA+ community at Pride

On Saturday 20 May, liberals from Belgium and across Europe came together for the Belgian Pride in Brussels. During the event, more than a hundred thousand citizens came together to show their support for the LGBTQIA+ community in a Pride parade and celebration across the city.

European liberals took part in the Belgian Pride 2023 in cooperation with Belgian ALDE Party members Mouvement Réformateur and Open VLD, as well as LYMEC, liberal youth from Jeunes MR and Jong VLD and various ALDE Party member parties in Brussels. With the slogan “Kiss Me, I’m Liberal”, party members, supporters and elected politicians joined the liberal section of the Pride parade to take a stand for freedom and equality and show that love is love, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

This year’s Pride comes at a critical time, as despite recent gains, the fight for equality is far from over. The 2022 ILGA-Europe Annual Review of the Human Rights Situation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex People found that hate crimes against LGBTQIA+ people are on the rise in the European Union.

That is just one of the reasons why we continue to push forward LGBTQIA+ rights everywhere in Europe. You can find out more about our liberal fight for equality in the post below.
