Liberals stand with Ukraine 1,000 days later

On 19 November, liberal leaders from across Europe reiterated their support for Ukraine on the 1,000th day of Putin’s full-scale invasion.

Since 24 February 2022, we have been standing with the Ukrainian people, through words and action, every step of the way.

Liberals governing in countries such as the Netherlands, Estonia and Belgium have continued to provide military support to ensure Ukraine can defend itself, while our Members of the European Parliament have constantly been pushing to unblock more EU funds to counter the invasion, including the release of frozen Russian assets.

Through various resolutions, including at the last Congress meeting in October, ALDE Party and our members have committed to take all possible steps to ensure Ukraine wins Putin’s war of aggression and is able to reconstruct the devastation inflicted by Russia with the latter’s own money.

“Ukraine is facing an unprecedented and brutal challenge these days. The only way to answer this aggression is to stay united around our democratic values and stay united around Ukraine. Only peace through strength can be an answer,” said ALDE Party Vice-President Yevheniia Kravchuk (Servant of the People, UA).

“This war is about much more about territory alone. It’s about freedom, about the future of democracy in Europe. That is why Belgium supports Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Slava Ukraini!” said Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD, BE).

“1,000 days ago, dictator Putin began his war against Ukraine. Ukrainians have chosen our liberal and democratic values. 1000 days the West stands behind Ukraine. This is not only in Ukraine's interest but also for the safety of all of us,” said VVD leader Dilan Yesilgöz-Zegerius.
