On 20 August, ALDE Party member CUB in Moldova launched its campaign for the upcoming presidential elections in the country on 20 October.
Party leader Igor Munteanu was confirmed as CUB’s presidential candidate after his nomination was approved by the party’s National Political Council.
The party will need to collect at least 15,000 signatures in support of Munteanu across Moldova’s 20 electoral districts to ensure the nomination can be registered by the country’s Central Election Commission.
“We aim for our next President of Moldova to invest more time and guts in listening to regular people, in knowing their real issues, leading by personal example and freely engaging with regular citizens to create social and moral cohesion in a transitional society,” said Munteanu.
“It is a good time for liberal politicians to make their inroads into the incumbent party voters. Entering into the runoff is a strategic choice that will bring CUB closer to the 2025 general elections, of outstanding importance to our party.”
A referendum on whether Moldova should join the EU is to be held on the same day as the presidential election.
