Last weekend, the ALDE Party member in France, Mouvement Radical / Social-Libéral, held its Summer University in Bordeaux.
The Summer University welcomed 600 participants and guests from the government, from European partners as well as from local representatives, including Annick Girardin, Minister of Overseas (Mouvement Radical); Geneviève Darrieussecq, Secretary of State for Armed Forces (MoDem); Christelle Dubos, Secretary of State for Solidarity (LReM); Michiel Scheffer, former member of the CoR (D66) and Sacha Houlié, MP, National Delegate of LReM to political organisations
While the Congress voted for supporting both Radical and external candidates (including Bordeaux’s conservative mayor) in the March 2020 local elections, the Summer University was followed by a National Convention about decentralisation and environmental initiatives at a local scale. A transpartisan initiative “Eco-responsible!” was launched to gather independent left-wing, right-wing or centrist mayors commited to act for greener cities and countries.
During his speech, party president and Mayor of Nancy, Laurent Hénart, renewed his call for an independent party and asked that the majority in government could walk together with the Mouvement Radical.
