Founded in 1911, Musavat Party is the oldest political party in Azerbaijan, and played a key role as the ideological motor behind the foundation of the first democratic republic of Azerbaijan in 1918. Led by Arif Hacili, the party's key goals include protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, creating a free society based on free, liberal market principles, equal rights for all and transparency.

Musavat believes that free and fair elections, accountability of central and local governments and all constitutional rights (freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and gender equality) must be fully safeguarded and respected. It also supports European and transatlantic integration, regularly participating in discussions regarding the EU’s Eastern Partnership project.

During snap parliamentary elections in 2020, Musavat participated with 60 registered candidates for 125 districts. As a result of mass fraud and undemocratic electoral procedures, highlighted by various international organisations, it failed to obtain a parliamentary seat.
