Women’s reproductive rights are increasingly under pressure in Europe. 

Every year 15,000 women suffer from severe consequences like physical disabilities and infertility because of illegal abortions.  

In Poland, Malta, Andorra, Liechtenstein, San Marino and Gibraltar women have de facto no legal and safe access to abortion.  

While in countries such as Hungary, Slovakia and Turkey governments are actively campaigning against abortion in Italy and Croatia there have been legislative initiatives to restrict abortion rights. 

Access to safe and legal abortion is a fundamental right. Governments and political actors cannot decide on women’s freedom and autonomy.  

We call on these governments to decriminalise and ensure safe and legal abortion.
