On this coming Sunday 29 September, Austria will hold a snap election as a result of a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Sebastian Kurz (Austrian People's Party) that occurred just a week before the 2019 European elections in May. Now voters will have a chance to elect 183 members of the Austrian Parliament.
ALDE Party member NEOS will run in the elections with a list led by party leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger, who has held this position since June 2018. See full list of candidates here.
At the 2017 general elections, NEOS positioned itself as the fourth political force in Austria and obtained 10 MPs. After the last regional elections, NEOS has representation in five Austrian states, including the capital Vienna. Following the European elections, NEOS secured one MEP seat, held by Claudia Gamon.
In the 2019 snap elections, the party’s electoral programme contains the following priorities:
N - Nachhaltigkeit (Sustainability) – starting with climate and environmental protection to pensions and social systems
E - Entlastung (Relief) – including a package of opportunity ranges such as tax reduction
O - Offenheit (Openness) – calling for transparency, honesty and control
S - Schule (Education) – to develop and promote each individual up to excellency
