New episode of ALDE Party video series focuses on gender equality

Launched in the context of the ‘16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence’, the new episode of ‘US – unique stories of liberals’ video series features Eva De Bleeker, a Belgian politician of ALDE member Open Vld and alumna of the European Women’s Academy (EWA).

With a focus on issues such as ensuring gender equality in Europe and how leaders should respond to the COVID-19 crisis, this new episode tackles some of the most pressing topics of our time.

Reflecting back to her experience with the European Women’s Academy, De Bleeker said:

“It was extremely important for me, the EWA experience. It gave me another insight in how politics works. It was very technical, it was extremely well done. It really opened my world and it made me act much more professionally. We had a Facebook group, we support each other, we exchange our experiences and this helps, because you see that other women are experiencing the same issues so together we try to find solutions.”

De Bleeker also shared her own, powerful message to young women and girls who are thinking about entering politics:

“A speech from Kamala Harris where she said that ‘dream with ambition and lead with conviction’ – if you have the dream to get into politics, if you want to change the world for the better, then do it. And once you are in this position, do it with conviction and do it with confidence. I am happy where I am now so I am proud that I did it and that I pursued my dreams.”
