New episode of Liberal Stories focuses civil rights fight and how to strengthen democracy

The fourth episode of the Liberal Stories – an exclusive ALDE Party video interview series focusing on Europe’s future – features Italian Emma Bonino, Senator for ALDE member party Più Europa and former Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Commissioner of Health and Consumer Protection.

In this episode, Bonino shares how her civil rights fight has changed over the years.

“In the 70s civil rights were basically fought at national level. Now we have learnt that no one alone can even try to move forward, we must at least know that we are moving in a sort of global environment,” Bonino says, stressing her concerns on some European countries going backwards in civil rights nowadays.

When it comes to how to strengthen democracy, she shares her hopes for the Conference on the Future of Europe to take due attention on civil rights avoiding the unanimity vote on the Council “otherwise any difficult or divisive situation will be stopped by the vote of one country, which is exactly the opposite of democracy”.

And did you know that she lived in Egypt, Afghanistan, and Belgium? In any case she always called Rome her home.
