The second episode of the Liberal Stories – an exclusive ALDE Party video interview series focusing on Europe’s future – features Belgian Willem-Frederik Schiltz, who leads ALDE Party member Open VLD’s fraction in the Flemish Parliament.
In this episode, Schiltz shares his views on sustainability and climate change from the regional perspective and describes the role that citizens can play in combatting these issues.
“Justice, fairness and a lot of participation. Otherwise, it will be fighting against a growing revolution of people who are left behind and don’t understand,” Schiltz says, stressing the importance of listening to the voices of all people, not just a select few.
Reflecting on how a sustainable European future would look like, Schiltz believes that a series of measures and principles, such as social justice or job security, are needed to effectively achieve this. However, he notes that the shift to a more sustainable ecosystem is “a huge economic opportunity that we cannot miss as a continent”.
And did you know that to unwind from his political work, Schiltz turns to gardening and sailing?
