On Friday 8 September NEOS launched their election campaign ahead of the upcoming Austrian legislative elections at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
For more than 70 years, the same three old-established parties have been in power in Austria -SPÖ and ÖVP for a particularly long time-. That is why, NEOS believes it is now time to offer to Austrians a new perspective and make sure that citizens' perspective counts.
For this purpose, NEOS' programme is based on six core issues:
- Changing the structural system
- Investing in education
- Supporting business and innovation
- Promoting integration
- More Europe
- Guaranteeing civil liberties
During the election campaign launch, NEOS leader Matthias Strolz proclaimed: "Austria is on the eve of a big change!"
ALDE Group leader in the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt travelled to Austria to express his support to NEOS. "We can only solve our problems at a European level. We need Europe for the future - it's the only way to prepare for the future," he said.
Several other ALDE leaders have also expressed their support to NEOS, such as the Prime Minister of Slovenia Miro Cerar, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel or FDP leader Christian Lindner.

In the upcoming weeks, Matthias Strolz und Irmgard Griss will be touring around Austria to discuss with citizens about the campaign. Check out their calendar and join them here.
