Theresa May has called for snap general election in the United Kingdom to take place on 8 June 2017. The UK has a choice on 8 June: to vote for Theresa May and her hard Brexit or to stand up for the values we share as European citizens and liberals, which our member party in the UK, the Liberal Democrats, stands for.
Whilst this election is crucial to the political future of the UK, its outcome could also have a profound effect on the EU and what happens next regarding Brexit.
The ALDE Party member in the UK, the Liberal Democrats is THE Party fighting to oppose May’s hard Brexit and to promote the European values we share, it is the party fighting for an open, tolerant and united Britain.
Commenting on the Prime Minister's call for a general election, Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said: "This election is your chance to change the direction of our country. If you want to avoid a disastrous Hard Brexit. If you want to keep Britain in the Single Market. If you want a Britain that is open, tolerant and united, this is your chance. Only the Liberal Democrats can prevent a Conservative majority."
The Liberal Democrat general election campaign has got off to a flying start as new members have seen the LibDems party double in size since May 2015. In the short time since the snap election was announced the Liberal Democrats have gained over 4,000 new members.
From near or far, you can help make a difference! Now is the last chance to fight a hard Brexit and Liberals around Europe must unite behind the LibDems in the UK.
