Our values are worth fighting for

Following the election results in Hungary, ALDE Group Vice President Sophie in ‘t Veld said: Viktor Orbán secured his third term as Prime Minister last Sunday. It was a victory for a nasty brand of nationalism, authoritarianism and corruption. The elections were free, but not fair, as Orbán has used his first two terms to silence all critical voices. Nationalists and extremists around Europe are celebrating. But they cheer too soon. They may be loud, but they are not the majority. Let’s make Orban’s win the last hiccup of nationalism, and build a strong Europe for all Europeans."

In the meantime, the President of the ALDE Group in the European Parliament, Guy Verhofstadt, also took on the leader of the European People's Party in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, for cosying up with Orbán yet again and not voicing any critique on behalf of the EPP family:
