Parliament determined to protect citizens’ rights

In an interview on BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on Brexit, Guy Verhofstadt, President of the ALDE Group in the European Parliament, stated that the European Parliament’s preferred outcome would be some sort of an association agreement between Britain and the EU as the scope of the future relationship must be broader than only trade and economic cooperation.

He also confirmed Parliament’s red lines before any trade agreement is reached, namely that citizens must continue to enjoy the same rights and freedoms during the foreseen transition period.
