Parnas Congress calls for opposition unity ahead of elections

Mikhail Kasyanov was re-elected chairman of the Parnas party, ALDE Party member in Russia, as the Party convened its Congress over the weekend in Moscow.

Delegates of the Congress discussed the current socio-political and economic situation in the country and also held elections for the positions of six vice-presidents and members of the Federal Political Council.

The PARNAS Congress also adopted a Manifesto on the programmatic principles and values ​​of the Party and adopted a resolution on the situation in the country and defined the tasks of the Party, in which it called on other democratic forces to unite their efforts to form a systemic alternative to the current government. 

Delegates also agreed the party shall call on other democratic forces of the country to unite their efforts ahead of the forthcoming federal elections to form a "list of trust" that will include candidates from different political forces whose views and programme do not contradict the values ​​and attitudes of the Party.

The Congress opened in Moscow on 20 March and was attended by 75 delegates from 48 regions of Russia.
