On 7 April, Più Europa – in alliance with Italia in Comune – launched their campaign for the European elections.
The event featured a series of expert panels in which the participants discussed several topics, such as the Eurozone, the environment, the state of law and digitalisation. These topics will shape the programme that Più Europa will present to the European elections.
In her speech, Emma Bonino, founder of Più Europa and ALDE’s Team Europe member, stressed the importance of ALDE in the upcoming elections. She said: "The blockade of the European People’s Party and that of the Socialists has lost momentum. ALDE will be instrumental in pushing forward the EU. We are Liberal Democrats, reformists and we are also federalists. If some Europeans think we are the enemies, they have the wrong goal.”
ALDE Group leader and Team Europe member Guy Verhofstadt also attended the event and underlined the importance that Più Europa has in Italian politics.
“For years, politics in Rome has been reduced to a choice between Berlusconi and the Democratic Party and Italians have had enough, they both hate each other. A hatred that led to the growth of sovereigns and nationalists of Salvini and Di Maio. Then Più Europa is the only hope for a liberal and pro-European political choice in Italy,” Verhofstadt said.
