Počivalšek elected SMC’s new leader

Last Saturday 21 September, SMC in Slovenia unanimously elected Zdravko Počivalšek as the party’s new leader. In this role, Počivalšek, the incumbent Minister of Economics, succeeds Miro Cerar, the founder of SMC and Minister for Foreign Affairs.

In his first statement after the election, Počivalšek emphasized the party’s strong standing, with ten members of parliament, four ministers and a lively and active local network.

“I am an advocate of a liberal, free-thinking political approach. Differentness and different opinions, however, are a wealth if we can pull the best out of them. [...] We have shown that we are convinced that a better tomorrow can only be achieved together,” he said during the party congress.

The outgoing party leader Cerar congratulated Počivalšek and voiced his trust for the party’s future and its mission to act for the benefit and good of Slovenia.
