The Free Citizens Movement (Pokret Slobodnih Građana) was founded in May 2017 by Saša Janković, who had held the position of Ombudsman for 10 years and was widely recognised for his fight against the authoritarian regime in Serbia.

PSG identifies itself as a social-liberal party, considered centre-left on the Serbian political spectrum, and part of civic pro-European oriented parties. The party has long been unique and isolated on the political scene of Serbia, even among the opposition parties, due to its political views.
