On 5-7 July, ALDE Party member Iniciativa Liberal hosted its 8th party Congress in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal.
Under the motto “always growing”, Portuguese liberals gathered for the first time since the success in the European elections, when the party elected its first two Members of the European Parliament in João Cotrim de Figueiredo MEP and Ana Vasconcelos Martins MEP.
Party leader Rui Rocha delivered a keynote speech focusing on the party’s growth in Portugal and the new mandate entered following the national elections held in March.
Members voted on the party’s statutes and agreed to adopt the party’s new political programme with 97.9% of votes in favour.
The programme is divided into six main sections: rights, freedoms and guarantees; political organisation; sovereignty; economy; society; and welfare state.
