The Alliance for Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) Party will announce its candidate for President of the European Commission at a special electoral Congress to be held in Brussels, Belgium on 1 February 2014.
To underline the transnational character of the campaign, candidates shall be formally nominated by at least two member parties from more than one member state or by 20% of ALDE Party Congress voting delegates by 20 December 2013. Nominations will be discussed by the leaders of our European liberal parties at the pre-Summit meeting before the European Council on 19 December 2013.
The President of the ALDE Party, Sir Graham Watson MEP said: "I am confident that whoever is chosen as our candidate will be a committed Liberal, a committed European, and passionate about leading Europe’s Liberals in an EU-wide campaign based on the principles and policies in the manifesto we will adopt at our Congress in London in November."

- 19 December Pre-Summit liberal leaders meeting to discuss nominations received
- 20 December Nominations formally close
