Overview of Ministerial meetings

Since 2015, the ALDE Party Secretariat has organised over 30 ministerial meetings in close collaboration with our group in the European Parliament. During the meetings, Ministers discuss and share views on the items on the Council agenda.

ALDE Party Establishes Policy Advisory Groups

Earlier this year, the ALDE Party established four Bureau Policy Advisory Groups on the following topical themes:

  • Climate and Sustainability
  • Jobs, Growth and Innovation
  • Democracy and Security
  • China

As part of its multi-annual research on European trends towards the European election, ALDE Party has recently conducted a large scale survey in 27 countries. Marie Bjerre: The next liberal star of Denmark

Alliance of Her alumnae Marie Bjerre has been all over the Danish press lately. They call her a “superstar”, and the next rising star of her party, Venstre. Now she wants the liberal member party to be established as the climate party. We caught up with Marie to get the latest on what she’s up to and why climate needs to be at the centre of what comes next for Denmark, and the EU.

Renew Europe Group leadership update

The next Renew Europe group leader will be Stephane Séjourné MEP (En Marche, France). Only two candidacies were received by the deadline but during her opening speech Sophie in t'Veld MEP announced the withdrawal of her candidacy, using her speaking time instead to outline what would have been her mission for the position.

German Coalition Negotiations: Liberals on the rise

The German coalition negotiations entered a new phase last Thursday. Twenty two working groups with four to six negotiators of each party will discuss various topics that should be finalised by 10 November. The remaining red lines will be clarified during the main round of negotiations among party leaders in a later phase. They are aiming to get a coalition deal at the end of November. 

Dacian Cioloș, leaving the leadership of Renew Europe Group to “Save Romania”

This month Dacian Cioloș stepped down as leader of the Renew Europe Group to take up a new mission to lead the liberals in Romania and help exit the country from its latest political crisis. 

On 2 October, Dacian Cioloș was elected by members of the Romanian ALDE member party USR Plus (Save Romania Union) as its new leader, and set out on a journey with ambitious goals: winning the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. He will remain an MEP.

Class of 2022: what's coming up!

Earlier this month we launched the call for applications for our TWO new Alliance Of Her Academy classes for 2022. European Liberal parties can and should lead by example on gender equality, and for next year’s edition we invite our Pro readers to nominate eligible candidates, with a special extended deadline of November 19.

What’s next for the DMA?

On 12 of October 2021 the ALDE Party hosted in collaboration with Microsoft our first hybrid Stakeholder Series event for this autumn season, “What's next for the DMA?”.

The ALDE Party comes back with in person events with this year’s Council meeting in Rome. During the two day programme we will organise some open events such as the Liberals on the Future of Europe, Hans Van Baalen Town Hall event on Friday afternoon co-hosted by +Europa.
