Progressive Slovakia (PS) was founded in 2017. At the 2019 Presidential elections, the party's candidate Zuzana Čaputová won a two-round vote with nearly 60%, becoming the first female President in the history of Slovakia. At the 2022 party Congress, MEP and European Parliament Vice-President Michal Šimečka was elected as party leader. In 2023, he led PS to a historic election result, receiving 17.96% of the popular vote and entering the Slovak Parliament for the first time with 32 MPs as the second-biggest political force in Slovakia.
