On 14-15 September, Radikale Venstre held a party Congress (Landsmøde) in Nyborg, Denmark.
Sigrid Friis Frederiksen MEP addressed members, highlighting the successes of Radikale’s European election campaign which led to her winning a seat as Member of the European Parliament in June.
In particular, Friis described the role she will cover for Renew Europe in the European Parliament as deputy coordinator of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy.
“This is where we lay the groundwork for Europe to become energy independent: to put an end to the import of Russian gas and stop filling Putin's pockets with money directly to his horrific war machine. Because energy policy is about both the climate of the future and the security of the present,” she said.
En ære at få lov til at holde min første tale til #rvlm24 som medlem af Europa-Parlamentet. Der er så meget, vi kan gøre sammen. For kloden, for rettigheder, for den næste generation.

“I also sit on the European Parliament Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. Agricultural policy must be radically reorganised […] it’s clear to me this is a political battleground where many people - young and old, rural and urban - count on us in Radikale.”
During the meeting, party leader Martin Lidegaard unveiled Radikale’s "children's pledge”, which includes investing DKK 15 billion in nurseries, day care providers, kindergartens and primary schools.
Lidegaard also stressed Denmark’s key role as one of the main suppliers of renewable energy if the European Union is to meet its goals set by the twin transitions.
“Europe cannot go green without green energy from the North Sea. The EU cannot free itself from fossil fuels and Putin's gas without Denmark's active participation,” he said.
“Mario Draghi has just written a huge report about it for the Commission, and he has no doubt: Europe's climate, Europe's security and Europe's prosperity are at stake. And that requires huge investments in the next five to ten years in the EU – not least in the Danish North Sea.”
