Renew Europe Roundtable on Western Balkans renews call for increased EU support

ALDE Party acting co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP participated in a Roundtable event on the Western Balkans organised by the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament on 8 December.

The event brought together virtually the leaders of the liberal parties and thinktanks in the region for an afternoon of discussions on geopolitics, security and the rule of law and featured interventions of liberal MEPs Sophie In’t Veld and Klemen Groselj.

Olivér Várhelhyi, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood, also participated in the event.

Kyuchyuk, who is also Vice-Coordinator for the Group in the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, said during the meeting that: “Any hurdle can be overcome in the commitment to the enlargement process and fully-fledged EU membership is the ultimate goal."

"The EU should continue to support Western Balkans in carrying out all the necessary reforms because the European Union and the alignment with its values and standards remain the greatest unifying factor for all the people of the Western Balkans," he added.
