More than 2,000 people gathered in Lisbon over the weekend for the congress of Iniciativa Liberal, ALDE Party’s member party in Portugal. During the Congress, delegates voted for a new party leader and a new executive committee.
Rui Rocha MP was elected as party leader for a 2-year term with 51.7% of the vote. In his acceptance speech to the Congress, Rocha promised to balance the continuity and renewal of the party, break bipartisanism in Portugal and gain 15% of the vote in the next legislative elections - an ambitious objective that would triplicate the party’s share of votes from the last elections.
In the run up to the leadership election, Rocha declared:
“If I can count on the confidence of the members, I will count on absolutely everyone to swell the wave of hope that is the Liberal Initiative. We are all few to make Portugal More Liberal.”
Se contar com a confiança dos membros, contarei com absolutamente todos para avolumar a onda de esperança que é a Iniciativa Liberal. Todos somos poucos para fazer de Portugal Mais Liberal.
