SAB Congress approves 15-point plan for the Future of Slovenia

The Alenka Bratušek Party (SAB), ALDE Party member party in Slovenia, convened on 8 October for a congress during which the party adopted a new programme. The 15-point platform revolves around the welfare state supported by a strong economy, democracy and respect for the rule of law.

In her address to delegates, party leader Alenka Bratušek said: “Everything we do, we do for the people and their future. My experience shows that people understand the difficult situation and are ready to cooperate, to understand the government when it must take difficult decisions, but only if someone explains to them why a certain measure is needed.”

The party’s programme places great emphasis on youth and pensioners at the top of its agenda, as well as public healthcare and advocating sustainable public finances and sustainable development. The party also wants to develop the common European security and defence policy and plans to advocate the development of “additional collective-security mechanisms” in NATO. They call on Slovenia to regain leadership in Western Balkans.

Delegates were also addressed by representatives of sister parties in ALDE Party, including ALDE Party acting co-President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP, Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas as well as former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta.
