On 2 September, ALDE Party member Progresívne Slovensko convened for a party conference ahead of elections in Slovakia set to take place on 30 September.
Party leader and Vice-President of the European Parliament Michal Šimečka MEP presented the party’s election programme entitled Plán pre budúcnosť (Plan for the Future). The day also included three expert panel discussions and a public debate on key issues for Slovakia and Europe.
In his speech, Šimečka noted the party’s opportunity to reunite the Slovak political landscape: “We finally need politicians who will listen to partners, cooperate and patiently find a compromise. And we also need the ability to see things through.”
“We can’t only talk about plans, we need to be able to turn them into reality, with patient daily work and an emphasis on implementation. We want to bring exactly this quality, which is key for a better future of our country, to Slovak politics."
"I am proud of Plan for the Future. It has three clear priorities - to restart the Slovak economy, to put Slovak healthcare in order, and to change the overall social atmosphere. So that people do not leave Slovakia, but instead start coming back.”
The party’s 10-point Plan for the Future also focuses on topics such as taxation, SMEs, housing, public transport, teachers’ salaries, gender equality, child support and green energy.
Šimečka and Tamara Stohlová will speak to residents in Trencin in a public debate on 7 September as the party continues to gather citizens’ thoughts and opinions ahead of the election. On 10 September, party Vice-Presidents Michal Truban and Tomáš Valášek will continue the conversation in Trnava.
