The Bureau of the ALDE Party expresses its concern and calls on authorities in Serbia to fully cooperate with the international community and Kosovo authorities in investigating and bringing those responsible for the attack by a large group of Serbian paramilitaries on 24 September in the north of Kosovo with heavy weapons against Kosovo police patrols in which one police officer was killed to justice.

The authorities in Serbia should refrain from supporting and encouraging violent attacks against Kosovo and should fully commit to normalising relations with Kosovo as a pre-condition to EU membership.

The ALDE Party firmly believes that bringing the Western Balkans closer to the EU will help to foster stability and security, and so we call on the European Union to increase its efforts and ensure the EU-facilitated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia picks up the pace and delivers progress towards reforms and normalisation between the two countries.
