Act now to stop the attack on LGBTIQ+ rights in Hungary!

Right now, on 14 June, the Hungarian parliament is debating legislation that tramples on the rights of LGBTIQ+  individuals in Hungary, with a vote being held in the next 24 hours.

In a direct attack against our liberal way of life, Viktor Orbán and his supporters want to ban the “portrayal and promotion of gender identity different from sex assigned at birth, the change of sex and homosexuality” in schools and in public service advertisements for persons under 18. Moreover, NGOs will be excluded from providing sexual and reproductive health education, a catastrophic leap backwards that could harm young people for decades to come.

Civil rights groups are calling this a “Russian-style attack on freedom of speech and children’s rights”.

Just this weekend, during the ALDE Party eCongress, we adopted two resolutions  (read here and here) to once again reaffirm our unwavering and unambiguous support for LGBTIQ+ rights. Religion and promotion of traditional family values must never be accepted as excuses for limiting the rights and freedoms of LGBTIQ+ individuals and all ALDE representatives throughout Europe once again commit to continuing the fight for the against discrimination of LGBTIQ+ individuals.

Our past petitions have helped the EU be declared a LGBTQI+ freedom zone, adopt severe EU sanctions against Belarus and stop the outlawing of abortions in Poland.

With your help, we can stop this new attack on European democracy!
