On 19 March, liberal Agriculture and Fishery Ministers met in Brussels for the first ALDE Party AGRIFISH Pre-Council of the year. The meeting was co-hosted by Fernand Etgen, Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture & Consumer Protection of Luxembourg, and chaired by ALDE Party Vice President Timmy Dooley TD. The Ministers were joined by Jan Huitema MEP, member of the ALDE Group and Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development in the European Parliament.
The focus of the meeting was the Council agenda, namely, the European Commission’s communication on the Future of Food and Farming. The Ministers discussed and shared their views on the conclusions of the communication to be adopted in the 19 March AGRIFISH Council meeting, and priorities for the continued work on the Common Agricultural Policy post-2020. The Commission is foreseen to put forward a legislative proposal based on the communication during the first half of 2018.
