The Alliance Of Her marked an incredible year this weekend with the first ever alumnae summit taking place. The summit brought together more than half of the 130 strong alumnae, along with many more of their allies and supporters, to celebrate six years of success since the programme launched in 2016, while also laying a foundation for even greater expansion of the programme in the coming years.
The audience heard powerful messages of support from liberal leaders such as Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, party leaders Anna Donáth and Sigrid Kaag, and Minister Sophie Wilmès. The participants were also addressed by former alumnae such as Bettina Stark-Watzinger, newly appointed Minister for Education in the German Bundestag, and Eva De Bleeker, Belgium’s Secretary of State for Budget and Consumer Protection.
During the Summit a special honour was given to Sabina Ćudić, who received the very first Alliance Of Her Women in Politics Champion of the Year award. Sabina has worked tirelessly to advance women’s rights and promote liberal women in politics in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among her projects are the ‘50% Initiative’ which has not only increased female representation but given more visibility to liberal female activists.
For the alumnae present however, the most important aspect of the weekend was the chance to connect with fellow liberal women in politics and share ideas, experiences, successes and lessons learned, and to be part of a growing movement of ambitious, influential liberal leaders.
With five times the number of applications for the Alliance Of Her Academy class of 2022, the alumnae network looks set to expand even more next year, and this means even more opportunities for liberal women in politics to achieve their political goals and to be heard.
