On International Day of the Girl, The Alliance Of Her is thrilled to highlight our youth engagement in cooperation with LYMEC – European Liberal Youth.
Through the Youth Class of 2022, we’ve brought together 30 young liberal women from across Europe for The Alliance Of Her Academy, with an empowering agenda focused on women’s political leadership and representation.
Now more than ever, women’s political leadership is needed to solve greatest challenges of our time. But despite progress, gender equality is advancing too slowly – in politics and beyond.
Our 2021 report “Igniting her ambition: Breaking the barriers to women’s representation in Europe” found four key barriers to women’s political participation:
- Family and work choices: together with time constraints, women are expected to stay home and commit to family obligations
- Higher standards: women experience higher demands than men in politics
- Confidence: lack of self-confidence and weak support from networks
- Role models: lack of female role models and mentors that serve as inspiration
But we need more women in politics. And The Alliance Of Her is fighting every day to overcome these barriers. Through our academies, advocacy work and growing alumnae network, we empower liberal women in Europe to pursue their ambitions, lead and succeed.

Note: The Alliance Of Her Academy continues to benefit from the support of partners FNF and ELF. As such, all participants meet strict eligibility criteria, in addition to demonstrating clear leadership talent and ambition. Participants are also informed of the prohibition to run in an election campaign during the academy or up to 12 months after the termination of the program. If this condition is not respected, participants will be required to cover costs independently.
