The EU declares climate emergency

On 28 November, Europe became the first continent to declare a climate and environmental emergency globally following the adoption of a resolution in the European Parliament that was fully supported by ALDE party MEPs.

The resolution comes ahead of the UN COP25 Climate Change Conference in Madrid 2-13 December and sends a strong message to the citizens and the world.

ALDE party believes that to sustain our way of living and leave a healthy planet for our children, the EU must be a leading force in the world in addressing climate change, ocean health, and sustainable growth. Nonetheless, international climate and environmental cooperation is crucial to meet the Paris Agreement targets and the Sustainable Development Goal.

In this context, liberals have proposed a series of steps to make Europe greener:

Find more about how liberals want to make Europe greener in the several ALDE Party resolutions adopted on the topic:

A Climate Policy that delivers on the Paris Agreement (2019)

Moving towards zero emission mobility (2017)

Circular economy (2016)

Europe has become the first continent to declare #climate emergency, and to us liberals, this is possible with a series of steps such as:

a resource-efficient circular economy
green aviation
strong EU Emissions Trading System
