The “Union of Democrats and Independents” is a member of ALDE party since 2016. The center-right party is founded in 2012 by Jean-Louis Borloo. Simone Veil, the first female President of the European Parliament, a former French Minister, and a highly respected French politician, was also one of the founding members. Hervé Marseille succeeded Jean-Christophe Lagarde in 2022 as party leader and is regarded as a convinced European.
