On Saturday 13 July, ALDE Party member Uniunea Salvați România (USR) held its National Congress in Bucharest, with 500 delegates from all over the country gathering together to elect the USR candidate for the country’s presidential elections that will take place in this year’s November. Several amendments to the party statues were also voted for during the Congress.
Four candidates contended in the internal elections to nominate the party’s candidate for the presidential elections. With 324 votes out of 466, the party’s leader Dan Barna was elected as the USR candidate for the November elections.
Following his election, Barna stated: “I thank my colleagues from the USR that they have chosen me to be the party’s candidate for the presidential elections. It is a result that confirms our efforts to develop and to be what Romania needs so much, a new and fresh party.”
Currently, USR is the third biggest force in Romania.
